How it All Began....
It was a cold rainy Sunday in November of 1991 as I was sitting in my favorite chair watching a boring movie on the television set. I looked outside my window just in time to see a little squirrel nibbling on some shelled corn that my wife had thrown out earlier that day. I enjoyed watching the squirrel eating the centers out of each kernel and tossing the rest away. He seemed to be very content on what he was doing and didn't seem to care what was going on around him, or that he had just acquired a stranger watching his every move.
As the squirrel continued nibbling on the corn, a few other squirrels came up beside him and started to eat also. In a few minutes, some of the squirrels finished eating and started chasing each other around while the others continued working on the feast that was before them. It almost seemed like the squirrels were having a family reunion. As I watched the squirrels playing and getting along with each other, my mind started to wonder about my own family.
Where did my Doyle family come from? How did they begin their family life here in America? How do relate to the town of Doylesburg, Pennsylvania? I did not know the answers to these questions, but they seemed to interest me very much.
It was at this time that I decided I wanted to find out the answers. I figured that any information I found, I could relay onto my family so the future generations of the Doyle family would have and know the information.
The above was the start from which my search began. Many hours were spent in the Libraries pouring over the old Histories of the Counties, the Census Records, Wills, Land Deeds, and the Birth and Death Records. I also spent a lot of time talking with family members and their descendants. Recording all the information was a tedious and time consuming task, although an enjoyable one. It was made possible because there were so many people interested in the family. It involved extensive correspondence, and strangers became friends after exchanging letters.
There are still some missing pieces that I seem unable to place, but maybe through out the years someone may be able to help solve them. Inevitable there will be some errors, but every effort has been made to keep them to a minimum. It is my hope that with the many imperfections that may have been made, the Doyle Family History may be preserved for future generations.
Now back to the squirrel gathering,....
All the little squirrels ate and stuffed themselves until they came to the last kernel of corn. Figuring each one of them deserved the last bite, they started to fight and scruff with each other. It seemed like the little family reunion had turned into a stereotypical family feud!
Little did they know, that while they were fighting and scuffing with each other, a Blue Jay that had been watching the whole thing from a nearby pine tree had just swooped down and snatched the last kernel!
Sincerely your Cousin,
