John Doyle.
Newspaper and date unknown. 1857.
Early on the morning of the 29th of August, at Emmaville, Fulton County, departed this life Mr. John Doyle of Doylesburgh, in his sixty second year. He had left his home, in Path Valley, Franklin county, to spend some weeks in the above place with his beloved children, Mrs. M’Neil and Mr. Philip Doyle, when it pleased Divine Providence to remove him to a better world. The house of the deceased was the hospitable home of Bishops and Priests, in the discharge of their pastoral and pontifical duties, during more than a quarter of a century. He was not only a most exemplary, edifying Catholic himself, but he succeeded in leaving behind him a pious and truly Catholic progeny, of the third generation of the original Doyle stock, who, whithersoever they emigrate, carry with them the same noble principles, and the same undying attachment to the Catholic faith. He had no enemies- but all friends, as was abundantly attested by the large concourse of friends and neighbors, Protestant and Catholic, who went forth to meet his remains as they were solemnly borne from the place of his decease to their last resting place, in the Catholic cemetery of Path Valley, near Doylesburgh, where stands the beautiful church to which he so zealously and liberally contributed to erect, and of which he was so faithful a member and so bright an ornament. The desire of his heart, and his last rights, were to receive the solemn rights of the Church- but a combination of circumstances prevented this blessing, and God was satisfied with his pious wishes, as our holy religion teaches us to believe in such emergencies. The rememberance of the virtues of so good a man must powerfully tend to console his beloved wife and his dear children under so heavy a bereavement. May he rest in peace, and “his abode this day be in holy Sion.”

The Death of M.B. Doyle, Esq., not unexpected, which occurred between four and five o’clock this morning, occasioned universal sorrow among the old citizens by whom he was well known. Mr. Doyle, until a few days since, has been apparently in excellent health. On the day of the election he was attacked with congestion, but recovered at once. On Thursday he had a severe attack at the office of Mr. L. H. Pike, and had to be taken home, where he went to bed and never fully rallied. Mr. Doyle was in his fifieth year, and leaves a wife and one child, a daughter about 13 years old. His remains will leave his residence at 10 o’clock a.m., this morning to be taken to Bedford, Bedford county, Pennsylvania, for interment. M.B. Doyle had many warm friends among those who knew him well, and by whom he was considered an honest and warm-hearted man.

Philip Thomas Doyle. (Founder of Doylesburg, Pa.)
The Lincoln Republican. Lincoln, Kansas. Thursday, July 29, 1886.
Mr. P.T. Doyle, an old man some seventy years of age and a pioneer resident of this county, was in the city Monday transacting business. He lives about a mile North of Union Valley post office, Scott Township, and as he was returning to his home with his son, stopped at his farm about a mile South of Union Valley to see its renter and during conversation became excited and was taken away by his son, to whom he exclaimed, "I am going to faint"...the last words he ever spoke. He was taken home as quickly as possible but drew only a few breaths after reaching there. Dr. Francker was summoned to hold inquest promptly, but by the time all was in readiness it was one o'clock Tuesday morning and the hearing of evidence before verdict of jury lasted until about 4:30. The deceased had been ailing about three weeks but feeling better Monday had come to Lincoln with his son. He was a most respected and well liked citizen and his death so sudden and unexpected will cause many an expression of regret from those who knew him. The coroners jury returned the following verdict: We the jury in the case of P.T. Doyle, deceased, believe he came to his death from some cause to us unknown, but which we are led by the testimony to believe to have been heart disease. C.E. DeForest, A.J. Donovan, J.E. Markley, E.M. Donovan, J.C. Crispin, Jurymen.
