In December of 1997 I was given the following Bible dedication writings of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Doylesburg, Pa.
These dedication writings were copied by Reverend John Revord Campion, Pastor of Our Lady of Refuge "St. Mary's" Catholic Church. They were written from inside of bibles donated by family members to the church.
It was Father Campions intent as well as myself to have this information available for family members and fellow researchers to research their family.

In memory of Mary "Ellen" Eckenrode Piper 1839-1917 daughter of Jacob and Mary Shields Eckenrode known to all of Amberson and Path Valleys as "Aunt Ellen Piper", midwife, nurse, housekeeper wherever she was needed. She married Martin Piper and bore him four children only to be deserted by him after which she made her home with her parents and worked hard to rear her children Harriet wife of John A. Fegan, Bertha wife of Daniel Shoemaker, James Piper 1865-1885 and Wm. Piper of Fayetteville. Donated by Geraldine Fegan Williamson. Akron, Ohio. Commemorating her ancestor Robert Price. He was born Sept. 12, 1812. His earliest recollection was of the celebration of the American Victory in the Battle of New Orleans from age 14 to 62 he taught in the public schools of Franklin Co. especially in Burns Valley. He married Rachel Skinner by whom he had eight children. These children he transported to whateer school he was teaching. He moved in 1858 to the slopes of Prices Knob at the head of Amberson where he died on January 22, 1887 and is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery. Given by Melissa F. Seitz. In memory of Aunt Barbara Sanderson 1855-1942, daughter of Matthew Fegan, wife of Frank P. Sanderson. Aunt Barbra kept house fpr Matthew after her mother died. When Matthew died and the homestead was sold the Sandersons moved to Buck Ridge in Perry Co. From here Barbara and the children walked 12 miles to Doylesburg to mass and on one occasion carried an infant for baptisim. Later the Sandersons moved to Beaman, Iowa where they are buried. In Fond memories of my grandmother Melissa Elinor Snyder Shields 1853-1914, dau. of David A. Snyder & Mary Ann Kennedy who lived near Walsingham, 2nd wife of Chas. Sylvester Shields resident in this area from 1885 when the Shields moved from Perry Co. to Doylesburg. Given by Melissa Fegan Seitz. In memory of my parents Joseph Henry and Lottie A. Harris Fegan of Camp Hill, Pa. Joseph was a well known carpenter, Lottie was a homemaker. They had four daughters, Winifred Fegan Rodgers, Charlotte F. Patterson, Gertrude Fegan and Melissa F. Seitz. Donated by Mrs. John (Geraldine Fegan) Williamson of Akron, Ohio. In grateful memory of her grandfather James Fegan IV, born July 15, 1843, Amberson Valley where he later farmed. He was crippled in the Civil War. He died at Fayetteville in 1917 and is buried in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg. Donated by the daughters of Clarence Shields. In memory of their great great grandfather Thomas Shields and their great grandfather Charles Sylvester Shields. Donated by Geraldine Fegan, Akron, Ohio, widow of John Williamson. To preserve the memory of Rachael Skinner, born May 15, 1818, married Robert Price, teacher, on June 25, 1841, bore him eight children, died Sept. 20, 1902, and is buried here. James Fegan was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. From Geraldine Williamson. Aunt "Annie" McMullen, daughter of John J. and Mary Catherine Waters McMullen of Concord. Buried at St. Mary's, Doylesburg. Donated by Mrs. John (Geraldine Fegan) Williamson of Akron, Ohio. In prayerful memory of her father Sylvester Leroy Fegan, born April 5, 1910 and was buried here Jan. 21, 1969. From Geraldine Williamson. In memory of her great great grandparents James (10/7/1778-12/22/1853) and Elizabeth Glass Fegan, early residents of Amberson Valley. Elizabeth was famous for her hand woven cloth and knitted lace. Donated by Marion "Susie" Fogal Gardner. With tender recollection of her father Raymond Lester Fogal, born Neelyton, Huntingdon Co. July 31, 1896 to David Vincent Fogal and Annie??? Locke. On Nov. 15, 1919 he married Margaret McCartney with whom he operated a large farm and restaurant between Dry Run and Doylesburg. He died April 23, 1973 and is buried in Upper Path Valley Cemetery. Donated by Rev. John Revord Patrick Campion. In respectful affectionate memory of his parents Leo Patrick Campion eleventh and last child of Lott Campion and Naomi Elizabeth Revord, eldest of the five children of Thomas Revord and Julia Grimm were born in Austin, Minnesota, he on Dec. 30, 1895, she on Sept. 18, 1896. They married in St. Augustine Church, Austin June 29, 1920. Donated by Robert and Laurel Mellinger. In memory of their daughter Lorraine, born Lancaster County Oct. 6, 1948. Died there December 4, 1986. Donated by Mrs. John (Geraldine Fegan) Williamson of Akron, Ohio. In proud recollection of her materal grandparents, John J. McMullen, farmer of Concord, Pa. and born 1847, died 1918, and his wife M Catherine Waters, daughter of an Amberson Valley blacksmith, born 1849, died 1942. Donated by John J. Doyle. Elgin, Oklahoma. In memory of Barnabas Doyle, son of Felix who farmed in Path Valley for many years and fought in the Revolutionary War. Donated by John M. Doyle P.E. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Aunt "Lizzie" McMullen, Elizabeth McMullen dau. of John J. and Mary Catherine Waters McMullen of Concord. Buried at St. Mary's, Doylesburg. Donated by Edith C. (Kimple) Fegan. In memory of her parents Edward Kimple and Mary Dimler Kimple. The Kimples farmed near Guilford Springs and later lived in Chambersburg. They were the parents of a large family. Donated by Felix Giedrys Kolp. To honor Annie Beatrice Heckman, born April 9, 1907, daughter of Wm. McElheny Heckman and Nancy Wise Heckman. In grateful tribute to his maternal grandmother Margaret McCartney Fogal, a twin of Marie McCartney Crouse. She was born June 30, 1895 to West McCartney and wife Minmie A McElheney. Margaret married Raymond Lester Fogal Nov. 15, 1919 and bore him three daughters, Glenna, Marian and Maxine. A farmers wife, a local restauranteer, always devoted to Mary's Rosary. She died March 20, 1974 and is buried here. Given by Melissa F. Seitz. In memory of Chas. Sylvester Shields 1821-1895 devoted husband of Louisa Bistline 1825-1880 and Melissa E. Snyder 1850-1914 (my grandmother) Chas. Shields was a veteran of the Civil War and after moving to the farm by the church at Doylesburg did much to improve the church property by adding ground to make the cemetery larger and was instrumental in having a picket fence around the cemetery, a cross was added to the church at this time, made and gilded by Vincent Fegan. Donated by Geraldine Fegan, widow of John Williamson of Akron, Ohio. In affectionate of her paternal grandmother Elmira Jane Price born Jan. 29, 1850 near Doylesburg. She married James Fegan IV on Dec. 17, 1866 before Fr. Owen P. Gallagher. She mothered fourteen children. She died April 13, 1923 in Chambersburg. She is buried in Corpus Christi Cemetery Chambersburg. She always kept a crock of honey in the springhouse for her older grandchildren and she loved to sing, mostly hymns from morning till night. Given by Melissa F. Seitz. In memory of Aunt Mary Fegan, 1841-?, daughter of Matthew and Mary Doyle Fegan. When Aunt Mary lived in Doylesburg she took the children of the first communion class into her home and instructed them in the rudiments of the faith. Mary also kept house for the priest at Lewistown at one time. Given by Melissa F. Seitz. In memory of Aunt Matilda Shields 1820-1865, daughter of James Fegan and Elizabeth Glass, wife of Capt. Wm. Shields. It was in her home, the Shields homestead that mass was celebrated for the Catholics of Amberson in the 1850's & 1860's, the young men of Amberson rode across the mountain with 2 horses to bring the priest and return him to Doylesburg. In fond memory of her brother-in-law and sister Hubert Schilt of Cayuga Falls, Ohio (born 1900 died 1986) and Catherine Fegan schilt a faithful benefactor of this church who was born 1905 at Bellwood, Pa. The Sandersons moved to Perry Co. when father Matthews farm was sold about 1889. Later moved to Beaman, Iowa. While living in Perry Co. Barbara and the children walked 12 miles to St. Mary's for mass. On one occasion she carried a new baby for baptisim. Donated by Mrs. John Williamson, Akron, Ohio, born Geraldine Fegan. In grateful memory of John Price Sr., born Co. Donegal, Ireland 1769. Came to America 1791, worked as a journeyman tailor. Fought in the Whiskey Rebellion. Fegan 1892-1948, son of James and Elmira Price Fegan. Leo was employed by the Chambersburg Hospital. Leo was a great storyteller, a most likeable man. Donated by Mr. and Mrs. Gary Steck. The lovely memory of "Aunt Re", Marie McCartney Fogal, one of the nine children of West McCartney and his wife Minnie A. McElhenny. Marie married John Boggs Crouse (1877-1961). She worked tirelessly for St. Mary's Church all her life, she died June 4, 1983 and is with her husband buried here. Donated by John M. Doyle P.E. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In memory of Thomas Doyle, early settler of Path Valley Who settled here in 1737. He is believed to be the father of the Doyle clan in the area. Donated by Felix Giedrys Kolp. To honor John Albert Heckman, born June 10, 1897, son of Wm. McElheney Heckman and Nancy Jane Wise Heckman. John lived and farmed the property which the Giedrys family bought. Donated by John A. In memory of her daughter Mary Elmira Fegan 1918-1943. Mary was junior organist at Corpus Christi Church in Chambersburg, Pa. Mary died of Leukemia after a long struggle.
